I'm not really thrilled about the idea of a site that changes one word into another with no explanation or notification.
Particularly doing it retroactively. I assume that I DID write the word I intended and it was displayed that way for a while before being altered? I don't like that.
I'm not an admin and it is of course for the admins to decide, but this feel worse than censorship to me. I don't care for censorship, but I understand that it's up to the individual communities to decide.
But I do not care, as a writer, even as a writer of subpar smut, to have my words completely changed without my knowledge or consent.
Hello Hexkey,
I was reading your introduction and thought you came up with some really valid and exciting points about our censorship policy. Especially about giving members a visual feedback for when they type in a censored word.
I agree not knowing which word is censored can be frustrating (especially for new members) so we'll work on a feature that brings this to our members attention before they post.
Online not everyone tends to represent themselves in a positive manner particularly, when it comes to interacting and engaging in open discussions. There'll always be troublesome members who will post to offend, stir hatred and cause trouble.
Our goal is to cater to as many audiences as possible. Integrating some form of censorship helps deter negative behaviour and promotes a cleaner environment until our Moderators come in and take the appropriate action.
We post our site changes/ modifications in our Site Announcements section and welcome member feedback and replies there. We also have a dedicated board for Suggestions & Feedback where we read every suggestion and reply.
The downside of implementing censorship is that genuine people such as yourself, will end up in the crossfire. TheStarTurtle raised a similar point concerning about authors publishing strong sexual content in some of their stories and we came up with a solution of making our Creative Fiction board accessible to registered members only and authors adding a 18+ certification in story titles. We are also considering lifting censorship for accredited members.
For authors we advise avoid altering your stories at the moment. All words within your stories are saved as written, it's not deleted anything. Currently, we have other pressing issues at hand but we will implement a solution.
