Greetings, and I’m very glad to be here! I’m probably one of the older guys here, having come of age in the 70’s. Of course, our culture shapes us, and that’s certainly true in my case. To put it in perspective, a bare belly button had a different signifigance back then, than it does today, or even in the 90’s. In the small towns across America in the 70’s, two-piece swimsuits were just beginning to be accepted and worn at the beach or pool by everyday people…but “good girls†wouldn’t show their belly buttons. Crop tops (halter tops, midriff tops, etc) that revealed a few inches of skin were starting to be worn around the towns…but “nice girls†made sure their navels were covered. So what was the average girl to do? Well for one thing, many started showing off the belly button. It was a way to be bold and daring, to rebel against authority, and to be on the front edge of of pop culture all at the same time. No doubt about it, the girl with the bare navel was making a statement… and I was more than ready to receive it! In any case, when you read my posts or responses, you may notice some of these old thoughts and images coming through. Try not to hold it against me!
