Free running workout plan for beginners

Here’s another series in Getting Fit Without The Gym.

Like me you may at first be intimidated at the thought of either joining a gym or hiring a personal trainer whilst this can help fast track you to success, not everyone has the time, money or the commitment.

With increase risk of chronic illnesses such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes and stroke, the governments are stepping in to prevent or help alleviate some of these conditions.

What is it?

The National Health Service (NHS) in England have introduced a set of 9 week free running plan called ‘Couch to 5K’ in order to help the public reach their 5K running goal.

How does it work?

NHS understands the limitations of a new runners and acts by building their endurance up gradually. The building process involves mixing a combination of running and walking through the nine weeks until you’re able to run for 30 minutes non-stop.

Each week involves taking three runs and listening to one podcast. Listening to the free podcasts is like having your own personal trainer offering you various tools to help reach your goal. Have I mentioned it’s free? Sounds reasonable enough right, some videos to give you a feel for the thing.

You can find full information along with the plan here.

If you have found this useful or you have additional tips and tips, we’d very much like to hear from you. You can either leave us a comment or message us through our forum.
